Beginning in June of 2006, the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Research Program (EGRP) in the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) funded the work of selecting samples for "PanScan" - a genome-wide association study to identify common inherited genetic variants associated with susceptibility to pancreatic cancer. DCEG jointly sponsored the project, providing genotyping at the NCI Core Genotyping Facility.
The project proceeded in two phases. PanScan I concentrated on data obtained from cases and controls selected from 12 existing, peer-reviewed prospective epidemiologic cohorts (Pancreatic Cancer Cohort Consortium) and 1 case-control study (Mayo Clinic). The analysis included 1,528 cases and 1,594 controls from the cohorts and 368 cases and 345 controls from the case-control study. The genotypes and pre-computed analysis results using the Illumina 550K SNP chip are available behind the DCEG Data Access Committee. Researchers can apply for access to the data by clicking here.
PanScan II included scans of cases and controls selected from 8 existing, peer-reviewed case-control studies in the Pancreatic Case-Control Consortium (PanC4). The results were examined separately and in combination with those of PanScan I. The genotypes and pre-computed analysis results using the Illumina 1M SNP chip from 6 of the 8 participating case-control studies will be available through the CGEMS Data Access Committee soon.
